III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

Education:

Bachelors degree highly preferred, or equivalent work experience. Related sales/marketing courses and seminars helpful.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage daily content, information, news and features for stations web sites. Produce graphics/images, web pages, stories, audio/video, etc. to accomplish this function.
Responsible for making sure that web site is continually fresh from both a content as well as a graphical perspective. Ensure that the Arizona Sports overall image of quality and leadership is carried over to the web site.
Ensure deadlines are met and projects are completed on time.
Develop web pages and web sites for new site features, events, activities, etc. This includes gathering relevant information and graphic elements from various departments and entities for the web site.
Ensure that the web site provides and promotes sales activities. Help direct site toward becoming a profitable business activity.  Put a priority on sales production work.
Market and promote the stations via the Internet and the web site. This includes stations image and brand, events, products, etc.  maximize the sites as effective communications medium for stations.
Interface and coordinate with technical team regarding technical aspects of web operations (servers, connectivity, etc.). Work with IT to ensure that systems are functioning properly.
Ensure that all web related systems are functioning on a daily basis; streaming, content/data feeds, ad servers, etc.
Manage online events and special features (interactive contests, message boards, etc.) as well as social media content.
Offer ideas, suggestions, and other concepts for the stations Internet activities that are innovative and creative.
 

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

 

Two years post high school education in communication/journalism with skills in the following areas: broadcast journalism, writing, computer and operational skills, related field, or equivalent.
Experience working in a newsroom environment and/or experience writing for print or online news or sports site or blog. Prefer experience as a print reporter, copy editor and/or web editor.
Exceptional news writing and sports writing skills including editing and grammar skills. Ability to edit, produce and create accurate, well presented content in a quick, timely manner.
Must possess typing skills and computer input ability. Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new programs and HTML are required.  Must enjoy working with computers and technology.

MARKETING INTERNSHIP SUMMARY: To learn the "behind-the-scenes" Marketing & Promotional aspects of two of the biggest radio brands in the country.  With over 300+ events handled annually, Arizona Sports 98.7 FM is the flagship home of the Arizona Cardinals, Phoenix Suns, Arizona Diamondbacks, ASU Athletics, Arizona Coyotes and a radio partner with ESPN.  Meeting and greeting listeners, learning about how to brand our stations, facilitating promotions throughout the valley and charitable requests are just a few of the aspects of this internship.  From the initial planning and staging to the recap of an event, this internship is a great way to learn the ins and outs of how to plan and execute a promotion from start to finish.

 

NEWS PROGRAMMING INTERNSHIP SUMMARY: The interns with KTAR News are not people who grab a coffee for the boss.  They are not people who sit back and watch others create the news.  They are asked to be creative.  Newsroom interns are shaped into an integral part of the KTAR News team.  Each learns the ropes in our first few meetings our computers, our writing style and our culture.  They learn everything from pulling audio, conducting interviews and creating content for on-air and on-line.  They are assigned stories and asked to bring their unique viewpoint to the table.  Each step of the way is monitored by veteran news managers and staff, looking to help them advance in their skills and career.

 

SPORTS PROGRAMMING INTERNSHIP SUMMARY: To learn the "behind-the-scenes" aspects of sports programming.  Some of the learning experiences these interns have are learning how to put a sports talk show together from planning through execution, how to pull audio and how to edit that audio for on-air use during a show.

 

AUDIO PRODUCTION INTERNSHIP SUMMARY: To learn how to put together radio spots from the brainstorming phase through the final product.  The intern will learn the basics of the Pro Tools software as well as how to write spots for production.

 

WEB/DIGITAL CONTENT INTERNSHIP SUMMARY:  To learn how a newsroom functions and flows.  The intern will gain experience in writing news stories from press releases, interviews, raw audio, aggregation and social media.  The intern will also learn the strategy and planning needed to maintain a news website; basic HTML; Photoshop; and content management systems.

 

VIDEO PRODUCTION INTERNSHIP SUMMARY: Interns in the video department will learn how to use the TriCaster, Final Cut Pro software, basic HTML all while learning how to put video clips together for the website.  They will put projects together from the planning stage, through filming, through editing and finalizing the product for upload to a website.

 

TRAFFIC/CONTINUITY INTERNSHIP SUMMARY: To learn how to log commercial spots and assign the appropriate copy to ensure the correct spot runs at the specified time per the client.

 

REQUIREMENTS:                                                                                                                                                                                                         

18+ and currently registered as a college/university student, eligible to receive internship credit through their educational institution.
Upon selection intern will be asked to sign an agreement and provide proof of internship credit.
Schedule is between 15 and 25 hours per week depending on school requirements.
