JOB DESCRIPTION:

KTOO is recruiting qualified candidates to apply for the position of Programming Manager to join our news and public affairs team as the manager of 360 North, KTOO’s statewide television and online public affairs network.  We are seeking a dynamic, self-motivated individual with experience and skills in television programming, multimedia production and promotion.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities

Manages program acquisition and program schedule development for 360 North, manages brand and schedule promotion for 360 North and manages viewer services and audience relations. (30%)
Develops and produces local programs such as Gavel to Gavel Alaska, series, special event coverage, station breaks and promotional spots.  Represents 360 North and KTOO to partners, clients, program distributors and the public. (40%)
Develops daily programming logs and satellite record schedules.  Operates complex broadcast and online operations systems, including program automation, network satellite systems, traffic software and digital editing systems. (30%)
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Required Skills

Experience in digital media production and/or programming.

The Video Editor will be responsible for selecting and editing video for broadcast each day, communicating with show producers, news reporters and photographers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist producers, reporters, photographers’ in editing PKGs, VOs, VOSOTs for daily newscasts.
Operate Jib during live and live-to-tape broadcasts.

KHNS-FM, Program Director

JOB DESCRIPTION:

KHNS seeks an energetic, committed, personable and very tech-savvy Program Director. The Program Director serves under the general supervision of the Station Manager, works with a paid staff, 50 volunteers, and is responsible for the content and presentation of programs broadcast on KHNS. Adhering to the budget, the Program Director seeks, develops, evaluates, acquires and schedules programs. The Program Director displays leadership regarding program policies and performance of on-air shifts; supervises personnel and community volunteers; and keeps KHNS current with FCC rules as they pertain to programming.

About our location: Haines and Skagway score consistently in top-rated small town lists. We are on the edge of the Lynn Canal in Southeast Alaska surrounded by mountains, sea, glaciers and wildlife and a prime destination for fishing, skiing, hiking and hunting. Our community is diverse, engaged and active with a swimming pool, museums and a library that won the 2005 Best Small Town Library award. Haines is primarily a fishing town of 2,200 people. Skagway has fewer residents but has nearly one million cruise ship visitors in the summer. The communities are separated by 13 miles of water and are traveled by boat or small plane. KHNS has a studio in both communities, but our staff primarily works out of Haines, with frequent trips to Skagway. Klukwan is a small Alaska Native village near Haines accessible by road.

Salary: $40,000. Position includes health insurance and a flexible vacation policy.
This is a full-time exempt position based at KHNS Haines studio.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

General Duties:

Develop on-air programs and schedules that meet mission-driven goals and achieve balance between non-local and locally produced programs.

Coordinate with program distribution representatives.

Oversee operation of the automation system (DAD) and Content Depot, including programming and troubleshooting.

Supervise program department personnel. Ensure that program and operating logs are current.

Field questions, complaints, and compliments from the listenership regarding programming and policies.

Work cooperatively with General Manager in establishing program content and format.

Work cooperatively with station engineer to maintain broadcast equipment.

Fill in for on-air host when needed.  Assist in recruiting, training, and scheduling volunteers for on-air shifts, update training materials, and recognize volunteers at designated public or in-house functions.

Lead the programming end of on-air membership drives by planning and scheduling programming, scheduling pitch breaks, and pitches on-air as necessary.

Provide reports as needed to management along with other duties as assigned by the General Manager.

Supervises Operation/Production Assistant, On-Air Volunteer staff,

Help Maintain upkeep and cleanliness of the studios.

REQUIREMENTS:

Position Qualifications:  The job of programming at KHNS requires a minimum of two years’ experience with emphasis on community radio. Similar or equivalent experience will be considered.

Ability to work comfortably with computer software of many kinds, most notably the Enco system (DAD), Adobe Audition and the Public Radio Satellite System or equivalent, or the demonstrated capacity and willingness to quickly become so.

Exceptional production and on-air performance skills, as demonstrated by an audition tape.

Interfacing with and downloading from multiple distribution sites.

Ability to work independently and under pressure as well as a demonstrated ability to work effectively and enthusiastically in collaboration with a wide variety of people, both in groups and one-to-one; to balance multiple projects at once.

Demonstrated commitment to independent media, to community involvement, creative radio, public information, audience building and promotion techniques.

KTVA-TV, Master Control Operator

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Master Control Operators are responsible for monitoring the quality and accuracy of the on-air product. They ensure signal transmission meets government regulations which include both technical ones (such as those against audio over-modulation and dead air), as well as content ones (such as indecency and station identification). They troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, and prepare programming for future playback.

FLSA Status:  Non Exempt.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Duties of a Master Control Operator:
On-air Monitoring

Operate broadcast systems and related equipment, such as Avid Sundance automation and Omneon Video Servers.
Verify accuracy and on-air readiness of scheduled material by checking traffic log and automation playlist.
Manually operate equipment during high-pressure situations such as human and equipment error to recover on-air in the shortest time possible.
Knowledge and adherence to department Standard Operating Procedures and company policies.
Playback Preparation.

Set up incoming satellite feeds, route signal paths and schedule ingest records.
Digitize promos, commercials, PSA’s and various programming for on-air playback.
Utilize video and audio scopes to accurately gauge and adjust levels appropriately.
Technical Troubleshooting

Create accurate and detailed reports of on-air discrepancies.
Report problems to appropriate contact to correct issues in a timely manner.

REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Must have ability to perform accurately with strict deadlines, while under pressure and without direct supervision. Candidate should have above average skills in communications and multitasking. Ability to handle high stress environments and working as a team. Must possess general knowledge of computers and broadcast standards.

Physical Requirements: Strength and coordination sufficient to perform job duties and work in cramped spaces. Hearing, vision, depth perception, and hand-to-eye coordination sufficient to perform job duties.  Visual and auditory acuity necessary to operate equipment and identify color-coding.  Ability to tolerate temperature, weather extremes and low light conditions.   

Working Conditions: Inside/outside work; noise; standing; hot/cold temperatures; cramped quarters; angry customers or employees; travel; flexible schedules; overtime, weekend and holiday.

Minimum Qualifications:

One year of experience within a television broadcasting environment.   Up to six months experience as a Master Control Operator highly desired.

Level of Education required to meet minimum qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent is required. Associate’s degree, vocational certificate or equivalent work experience preferred.

JOB SUMMARY

The Overnight/Morning Producer is responsible for producing content for early newscasts including: creating content for TV and web, writing scripts, editing copy, ordering graphics to fit stories, coordinating live shots, communicating with anchors and production staff during live broadcasts, and directing reporters & photographers on deadline to meet the needs and vision of the Morning Show. The Morning News Producer also answers phones, deploys breaking news crews, makes beat calls and covers the Assignment Desk/Web Desk in the early morning hours. The shift of the Morning News Producer is 11p-8a Sunday night through Friday morning (with a one-hour lunch break), while also remaining flexible to cover morning news needs, as warranted.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITES

•Strong initiative and persistent attention to detail is required

•Be able to write clearly and accurately; great grammar

•Produces newscasts including: stacking, writing scripts, editing copy, ordering graphics to fit stories, making maps, coordinating live shots with directors, production staff, reporters & photographers

•Write copy for TV and web daily, including gathering breaking news information by phone in the overnight hours

•Must be able to work well under deadline pressure

•Ability to maintain professional and ethical conduct at the station and in the community

•Ability to work with limited supervision is a must

•Must be professional and courteous with the public, answer phones and greeting guests who are booked to appear on air

REQUIREMENTS:

QUALIFICAITONS

•College degree in journalism or related field required or equivalent professional experience

•Must hold a valid driver’s license and be insurable

•Must be willing to work flexible hours, including overnight, evening, weekends, and holidays as needed

•Work well with co-workers, especially the Executive Producers and News Director

KTUU in Anchorage, Alaskas #1 News station, is seeking a sales assistant to provide support to KTUUs sales management team and department. KTUU is committed to providing local news to the consumer wherever and whenever they consume news: on-air, on the web, via news and weather apps, and mobile.  The KTUU sales department works with clients presenting proposals and opportunities to advertise. KTUU an NBC affiliate is our primary station along with KYES, MyNetwork, and two sub channels NTUU (Justice) and NYES (Antenna).

JOB SUMMARY:

Assist in the administrative functions needed in the sales department for both television and digital sales. The ability to work together in a team environment and multi-task over a variety of responsibilities at one time is needed. Creative in thought with attention to detail and accuracy in numbers will be needed in this position. 

Position is Monday-Friday 8 hours a day for 40 hours a week.  Hours are 8:30am to 5 or 5:30pm. Minimum overtime is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITES

•Assist with order entry – WideOrbit, DFP, Google, Facebook, and Snapchat ad dashboards and other programs.

• Assist in creating marketing materials for sales presentations and marketing materials with the use of PowerPoint plus maintain the documents on the shared sales drive.

• Maintain and update television program inventory in WideOrbit Media Sales

• Provide Account Executives with status reports on digital ad campaigns

• Produce and maintain the weekly distribution of programming calendars and prime calendars

• Assist in the offer process with clients to negotiation make-goods for national and regional accounts

• Back up the traffic coordinator position as needed with material instructions, logs and other daily tasks

• Order entry for promotional efforts for digital and television

• Other duties as assigned

JOB SUMMARY:

The Satellite/Field Engineer is responsible for overseeing, engineering and operating live television remotes, planning and executing all field operations needs and operating SNG/ENG broadcast equipment daily. Responsible for directing and facilitating the set-up and production needs of all major remotes, live field broadcasts, coverage of specialized sporting events and specialized studio broadcasts; responsible for assisting the Engineering department with daily operations, short and long-range projects and equipment/vehicle maintenance; and shoots/edits daily news content, as needed. Position requires a Class B CDL to operate KTUU’s satellite truck. The role requires weeknight, weekend and/or weekday shifts, as assigned, and regular travel should be expected.

• Operate SNG van, ENG truck, broadband units and other related equipment

• Operate RF equipment

• Operate cameras, lights, wireless mics and all other essential equipment for live and taped broadcasts, as assigned

• Direct the live production crew before, during and after newscasts

• Anticipate/prepare for breaking news

• Troubleshoot and maintain broadcast equipment, creatively determine any needed solutions

• Install and train staff on new equipment, as needed

• React quickly and appropriately to any issues with equipment and breaking news

• Communicate any issues with detail, communicate with Operations and News staff before and during all live newscasts or special programming

REQUIREMENTS:

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 5 or more years’ experience as a Broadcast Engineer, preferably with supervisory experience

• Knowledge of broadcast engineering, operations, satellites, RF and computer systems

• Ability to plan, set-up and executive major field remotes and productions – as assigned

• Ability to troubleshoot and repair electronic equipment at the component level
