Purpose:

****THIS PHOTOGRAPHER/EDITOR POSITION WILL BE BASED IN JUNEAU, ALASKA

– JANUARY TO MAY, 2018 – TO COVER THE 2018 ALASKA LEGISLATIVE SESSION.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Photojournalist/Video Editor is responsible for shooting and editing video for broadcast each day, communicating with show producers, news reporters and photographers. The Photojournalist is also required to operate live and broadband equipment to facilitate real‐time broadcasts from the field daily.

Essential Functions:

• Shoot news video that accurately and fairly represents news stories

• Edit video and audio for broadcast, promos, and teases

• Demonstrate sound news judgment and ability to tell stories with pictures and natural sound

• Must be able to utilize non‐linear editing equipment on a daily basis

• Properly maintain camera, editing equipment, and station vehicle

• Communicate with reporters, writers, and producers on video needed for news stories

• Operate live ENG and Broadband live equipment and related vehicles

• Keep track of edited news stories for broadcast; maintain archive

• Respond to breaking news or urgent newsroom situations

• Collect information by interviewing and taking notes as needed (e.g. news conferences)

• Responsible for ensuring all goals and objectives are being met, and training sessions are attended

• Must demonstrate the drive to grow and learn, as well as offer creativity every day

• Ability to work well with co‐workers and in a professional manner

• Observe all safety regulations in‐house and when in the field

• Upload raw video and still photos to the Web site

• Communicate with the web staff during breaking news

• Write copy for the Web and newscasts after shooting VOs and VO/SOTs

• Manage storage space in video clip bins and maintain a still photo library

• Explore ways to increase visual content on the Web site

• Working knowledge of local geography and road routes is strongly preferred

• Follow clothing and appearance guidelines

• Perform other duties as assigned

• Work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed

REQUIREMENTS:

Experience:

 3 years previous news photography experience is a requirement

 Previous edit experience with Grass Valley edit systems or equivalent required

 Previous ENG experience requires

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Able to shoot and edit stories, work with reporters and assignment/planning desk

• Capable of gathering information and interviews when necessary; conduct online research

• Able to communicate clearly

• Ability to shoot and edit video in sequences and still photos that help tell the story for on‐air and online

• Knowledge of lighting and use of natural sound

• Must possess the ability to shoot and edit on non‐linear equipment, and to adapt to new technology

Morning Meteorologist / Multimedia Journalist

This employee must produce and deliver weathercasts from the station daily (Monday‐Friday) and make live reports from the field, as needed, in order to convey a daily weather story. In severe weather situations, employee must clearly and concisely present information and graphics to help viewers protect their lives and property. This employee will serve as a fill‐in replacement, on call and as needed, to cover shifts unable to be covered by any of KTUU’s other meteorologists. This employee will also serve as a Multimedia Journalist after the Morning Edition newscast, generating live and taped news content for newscasts and all digital platforms.

 Prepare and deliver weather over several platforms, including social media

 Responsible for developing all weather forecasts and accompanying computer graphics, delivering on‐air weathercasts and live weather reports from the field.

 Live “on‐the‐scene” reporting, especially during breaking news and severe weather

 Effectively communicate information regarding severe weather coverage in a clear and concise graphic presentation

 Provide weather forecasts for partnering radio stations

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Development Specialist will work closely with the management and development teams to:

Organize and direct individual giving strategies, activities and communications, including on-air member drives, direct mail and social media campaigns.
Organize special event fundraising activities.
Secure program underwriting support from businesses, corporations, and non-profit organizations.
Develop and write grant proposals for business, corporate, foundation, and government support.

Big River Public Broadcasting is a community radio network of stations based out of KIYU in Galena, AK. RESPONSIBILITIES:

POSITION SUMMARY:

On-air hosting
Hosting of local daily community affairs program
Filling various on-air local inserts during network programming
Play by play of basketball (or willingness to learn)
Monitor sources for special coverage of breaking news/information
Voice station promotional announcements
On-air pitching during membership drive
News gathering/reporting

Programming:
Download and edit daily/weekly shows and load into station automation
Monitor station automation and transmitters and troubleshoot problems
Create and edit on-air clocks in automation
Daily and weekly scheduling of logs
Assist in planning and execution of special events on and off the air

Administrative/office:

Essential Duties of the Audio Technician:

REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrated experience working with sound mixing boards, wired and wireless microphones, and IFB equipment.
Technical understanding of mix-minus, equalizers, compressors, limiters and gates preferred.
Strong verbal and written communications skills.
Ability to handle high stress and fast paced environments, multi-tasking and working as a team. Competent with the use of computers and knowledge of Adobe Photoshop.

Audio Operator

Ensure all wired and/or wireless microphones and IFBs are correctly laid out and tested for on-air talent.
Operate and regulate audio mixer to adjust sound inputs and feeds ensuring quality of sound for broadcasts.
Monitor video playback server and announce time cues to production crew.
Report and/or repair equipment problems.

Graphics Assistant

Coordinate with the Assistant Live Show Director to prioritize graphic needs with respect to deadlines for broadcast.
Utilize graphic creation tools to build full-screen photographs, charts, graphs, maps and “over the shoulder” graphics to station broadcast standards.

Physical Requirements: Technical Position: Strength and coordination sufficient to perform job duties and work in cramped spaces. Hearing, vision, depth perception, and hand-to-eye coordination sufficient to perform job duties.  Visual and auditory acuity necessary to operate equipment and identify color-coding.  Ability to tolerate temperature, weather extremes and low light conditions.

Working Conditions: Inside/outside work; noise; standing; sitting; hot/cold temperatures; cramped quarters; angry customers or employees; travel; flexible schedules; overtime, weekend, and holiday work.  
 

Minimum qualifications:
